SPATIAL SOUND
2024

In late April, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in an intensive 6-day workshop on 4DSOUND at MONOM Studios in Berlin.
Hosted at the iconic Funkhaus, the workshop was designed to expand our creative and performance capabilities using the 4DSOUND system. For those unfamiliar, 4DSOUND is a groundbreaking spatial sound technology that allows sound to move freely in space, creating an immersive listening experience unlike any other.
The program was comprehensive, covering everything from the foundations of spatial sound creation and spatial listening to the integration of live instruments in spatial performances. We also delved into crafting sound sculptures using the 4DSOUND Suite and gained insights from artists experienced with the system. Each day included hands-on sessions, where we spent a total of 48 hours exploring the state-of-the-art 48.9 4DSOUND system.
One of the highlights for me was the collaborative aspect of the workshop. We had numerous opportunities to work with fellow participants, who came from diverse backgrounds such as music production, dance, interaction design, and more. This melting pot of ideas and expertise made for some truly inspiring projects.
The culmination of the week was the Open Studio and Project Listening Session held on May 5th. Here, we had the chance to showcase the collaborative projects we had developed during the week.
4DSOUND workshop at Monom Studios was a transformative experience. It pushed the boundaries of my creative practice and opened up new possibilities for incorporating spatial sound into my work.
